Interviewing The Sacred Hags Oracle
Disclaimer: I approach my interviews as if it’s a conversation with the deck and write whatever comes to me intuitively. Sometimes, this shows up in the reflection as a stream of consciousness report. It may be hard to follow, but it’s an accurate depiction of my reactions/thoughts/feelings at the time of the interview.
Reflection of the interview:
The Season of the Cauldron Keeper is a card about brewing... simmering... and allowing all the individual elements that make up the whole mesh together. That tells me that this deck's personality is one of brewed specialties. Individually, the cards will stand out, but together, they will be a delightful concoction.
I get an immediate hit that this deck has many strengths but the card for this question, Hag of the South Desert is one of joy. I think what this card is signifying is that this can be a really joyful deck to use (I would agree as I've done a few readings with it already). What I love about joy is that it doesn't have a straightforward description. What I find joyful may not be someone else's cup of tea and vice versa. I like that the macabre, witchy feel of this deck DOES feel joyful to me and that using it will come with its own sense of joy.
In a way, I feel like just by purchasing and examining this deck, I'm already fulfilling the best way to work with this deck! Nectar of the Forbidden Fruit is all about rebellion. And to some, this deck's existence is rebellious. To some, divining or reading for others is an act of rebellion. (Hell, even daring to call oneself a "witch" is an act of rebellion). So I could go deep here, but I won't because I feel like I'm already using it the way it was intended to be used.
Ah! I love this card for this question. The Flame Tender's Temple card is all about the long-vision. The knowledge that we will leave behind legacies long after we're gone. The smoke of our missions will be flamed and restarted so many times after our death, but that's what we need. So this deck will help me with that purpose, I believe. What legacy do I want to initiate and plant today so that years or decades or seasons from now, someone can harvest it?
The Cailleach's Crag is such a complex answer for this question because of its representation of death, rebirth, and the moments before each that we grieve for. Every day we face death (usually, they're often tiny deaths), so we are always on the edge of rebirth. For that reason, I think this deck is to be used always... but particularly during the cycle of death and rebirth. When I know something is inevitably going to die and be reborn. That's when I will reach for this deck and its wisdom and comfort.
Any sensations/feelings to note:
This deck is so rich in color, detail, and description. This is not a deck where you can just "know" what it means, which I actually like and appreciate. It makes going to the guidebook fun and interesting.
How do you feel about this deck after this reading?
I'm pretty much in LOVE with this deck as I figured I would be. I'm a huge fangirl of Danielle Dulsky's and her collaboration with Janine Houseman (Sigil Witch) makes this deck an instant favorite of mine. Add in its creativity slant and I'm hooked.
What do you like or dislike about this deck so far?
To be honest, there's not anything I dislike about the deck at this point. It checks all my boxes on what makes a great deck. I'm sure I'll be using this deck quite often and it will become a staple in my practicing decks.
