Interviewing The Earthcraft Oracle

Disclaimer: I approach my interviews as if it’s a conversation with the deck and write whatever comes to me intuitively. Sometimes, this shows up in the reflection as a stream of consciousness report. It may be hard to follow, but it’s an accurate depiction of my reactions/thoughts/feelings at the time of the interview.

Reflection of the interview:

The personality of this deck is coming on strong with the Womb card. At first glance, without reading the description of the card, I thought maybe the card dealt with fertility or birthing something new (as wombs are meant to do!) but after reading the description, I find that this card symbolizes so much more than fertility or birth. These from the guidebook summarizes it beautifully: The Womb card has come to your reading to awaken your sacred ability to create and heal. The process of creation and healing are two sides of the same coin. To create, one must imagine something that has never been. To heal, one must be willing to embrace a new way of being. That tells me that the personality of this deck is to help me learn to create and heal simultaneously.

The strength of this deck is represented by the River Woman card and even before reading the description, I get the sense of serenity and flow. That this woman in the card image is in a state of "zen." In a way, I was right, as this card signifies an ability to "go with the flow," and to take everything in the moment. It also means being aware that the water isn't always smooth — it gets rocky and rough but if one can weather the bumps, smooth waters await after. This tells me that the strength of this deck is in reminding me that no matter what emotions or situations I'm dealing with currently, there are smoother waters ahead.

The Gatherer as the best way to work with the deck position is an interesting one. This card talks about our deep and ancient connection to the earth and our primal ancestors who used earth's resources to refuel, nourish, and give back. It talks about the sacred connection gatherers had to the earth as it provided everything they needed to survive. In modern society, the gatherer is a rare archetype but it can still be found in many of us. That's why this card is showing up in this position — the deck is meant to be used as a resource... when I'm in need of gathering something particular — courage, guidance, support, etc.

In the "growth" position as I'm calling it, the card pulled is Spirit of the East. It's connected to the element of air and initiates one into the energy of clarity, truth, new beginnings and ideas. It seems pretty obvious to me that this deck will help me grow in self-awareness, introspection and reflection. I get the sense that the lessons learned will come from a deeper, more primal place than some of the other decks I own.

Lastly, You Are Sacred was pulled for when I should call upon this deck. This feels particularly poignant to me. The card really talks about embodying the power and inherent worthiness that already exists within us, while also remaining teachable. To me, this card is saying that this deck is best used when I'm looking for what's already inside of me that I just need a reminder of. It tells me that to use this deck means to expand what I already know to be true. And in that way, it's always time to call upon this deck.

Any sensations/feelings to note:

After I pulled the cards and laid them out side by side, I definitely felt a surge of energy... almost as if the deck was happy with what I pulled. This reading felt natural and easy... like it was expected even.

How do you feel about this deck after this reading?

To be fair, I love the other decks that Juliet Diaz and Lorraine Anderson have put out (Seasons of the Witch: Samhain Oracle) so I thought I would like this one too and I was NOT disappointed. There's something about the way Juliet and Lorraine infuse their own special magic into the cards that make them feel natural and relatable.

What do you like or dislike about this deck so far?

So far, I'm loving everything about this deck right now! From the illustrations and bright colors, to the theme, to the descriptions, to the "rituals." Everything feels very natural and consistent and I can see this becoming one of my "go-to" decks.
