Interviewing the Tarot del Toro Deck

Disclaimer: I approach my interviews as if it’s a conversation with the deck and write whatever comes to me intuitively. Sometimes, this shows up in the reflection as a stream of consciousness report. It may be hard to follow, but it’s an accurate depiction of my reactions/thoughts/feelings at the time of the interview.

Reflection of the interview:

The energy of this deck is The Temperance card. It speaks to moderation - so I'm assuming that this deck is going to have a balance of light and shadow — especially knowing the "world" it was constructed in. With the Knight of Blades as the "strength" of the deck — this tells me that this deck will cut through any bullshit to give the "real deal." It might not be pretty but it will be swift. Ironically, the teaching card is The Fool which makes sense since it's often the first step in teaching for any deck. It reminds me of going into readings using this deck with that "beginners" mind and ending the reading with what I've learned through it. Interestingly, The Hermit was pulled for the "what do you ask of me in using this deck." The Hermit traditionally (and in this deck) relates to contemplation and inner knowing. Seeker of the truth. I think this means the deck is asking me to take in the cards of a reading with introspection, intuition and great thought. For "how can I best work with you and collaborate?" I pulled the Queen of Goblets which indicate, clear thinking, intentions and feelings. So I'm taking that to mean that I need to be VERY intentional and clear when I use this deck for a reading. I was surprised to get The Hanged for "what's the potential outcome of working together" as The Hanged (man/woman) is usually indicative of a decision needing to be made (often at the expense of being a martyr). This tells me that I may have to be judicial in how I approach readings, making a decision using intuition on whether or not it feels "right." Lastly, the card pulled for "what else do I need to know about you" was Ace of Discs which tells me that I need to take the first step in understanding/using the deck which is — practice. The Ace of Discs has historically been a positive card in my readings, so I'm going to take it to mean that if I take the steps necessary to get to know the deck, I may have generally positive outcomes.

Any sensations/feelings to note:

Knowing that this deck was created within the world of Guillermo Del Toro, I expected some strange illustrations! But some of them are super creepy (The Hanged for example).

How do you feel about this deck after this reading?

I feel like this is definitely a deck that was built for advanced readers as some of the illustrations aren't as intuitive as other decks. However, I feel like it would be a great deck to use for shadow work just because of the nature of the vibe/world it was made from.

What do you like or dislike about this deck so far?

As a fan of Guillermo Del Toro, I'm very pleased with the illustrations and the addition of the stories in the guidebook. That being said, it is a hard deck to work with intuitively. I feel like I will have to go to the guidebook more often than other types of decks.
