Creativity & Connection

I wanted to start off with a personal story because it really sets the tone for the bulk of this post.

The year was 2013 and I was an aspiring novelist. With several novels written, but none published, I was interested in making the jump. I decided to go to a fairly big and notable writing conference to learn more. At the time, it was completely out of my comfort zone. I didn’t know anyone there, I was such a newbie in the entire publishing world but I knew one thing: I wanted, more than anything, to have a direction to turn to.

The first night there, I found a group of women huddled together in the bar area talking about their future novels. They invited me to sit down. So I did.

As I listened to the other women talk about how much joy and sorrow they felt during the drafting process, I felt… heard. Seen. Understood. I added in my experiences of writing and they nodded their heads in agreement. That was the night that I found something way more important than a direction to turn to… I found a community. I found life-long friendships. I still keep in touch with several of those women, even if we’ve gone separate directions in our livelihoods.

So why am I telling you this story?

Because once you get a “taste” of being accepted in a community of others who truly understand and “get” you… the absence of it can feel despairing.

But there has been something missing in terms of a creative community for me. I think everyone knows how important and special creativity is, but not a lot of people understand the inherent necessity to create. For some of us, being creative or constantly creating is how we live. It’s how we relate to the world, how we solve problems, how we connect to others. It’s essential to our entire being and that kind of community is what I’ve been yearning for.

I want to be amongst a group of individuals who not only rely on creativity for their healing and self-discovery but who crave it like it’s air. And because I want other creatives to find that sense of community, too, I decided to build and facilitate a place where creatives can be seen, heard, and understood.

This is the kind of place I want creatives to feel safe to laugh together, cry together, create together, despair, and hope together.

I created The Write Minded Community because it’s exactly what I have needed my entire creative life. If you’ve been searching for a group of creatives who will understand, support, and nourish you then my Community might be exactly what you’re looking for. I invite you to read more about it and consider if it’s something that may help you find and reconnect to your creativity and others who are write-minded.

I’m so honored that I am able to share my creative gifts, woes, wins, and failures with a community of other creatives who understand.

There’s power in collective creativity and I’d love for you to join me on the life-long journey!
